About the Author
T. Damon has been imagining new tales and bringing them to life through her writing since she was a young girl growing up in Burlingame, California. Though oddly enough, most of her professional life has been in the zoological field, where she volunteered at the San Francisco Zoo and worked as a tour guide at Safari West in Santa Rosa for many years. T. Damon always assumed she would make her career in the animal field, as she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, but her passion for writing was a fire within her heart that was not to be ignored.

Aside from writing, in her spare time she enjoys studying astrology, tarot, and anything magical or mystical. But since having any free moments with a toddler is rare, T. Damon mostly spends her days raising her young daughter, Lenore, and tending to her husband Mark and numerous pets at their home in Santa Rosa.

COVER REVEAL: Tar / Taylor Hohulin

Today, I'm thrilled to help reveal the cover of TAR, a sci-fi novel by Taylor Hohulin! And without further ado...

Isn't it cool? I love the bold colors!! Here's more about the book and the author...

ABOUT THE BOOK

Brendan Cobb calls it tar, but there might be as many names for it as cities left standing.

To some, it’s known as filth, or blight. Others call it the Black God in reverential whispers. Whatever name it takes, the effects are the same. Cities left in ruins. People turned into monsters. Living infections with no known cure. The best anyone can do is avoid it, but even that gets harder the more it spreads.

Brendan survives this waking nightmare by trading salvage for shelter and for repairs to his cybernetic arm, until a newcomer arrives, convinced Brendan is the key to ridding the world of tar once and for all. Reluctantly, Brendan and his mechanic join the newcomer on a journey across the desolate highways of a ruined world, where he learns the true history of the tar…and of the dark power inside him, which grows stronger every day.

TAR WILL BE RELEASED ON NOV. 27!

ABOUT THE EDITORS

Paige Daniels is the pen name of Tina Closser. By day she works as an Electrical Engineer and Mom mushing her kids from gymnastics and violin practice. After the kids go to bed, she rocks out with her headphones turned to eleven and cranks out books. She is an uber science geek. If she wasn't married to the most terrific guy in the world, she would be a groupie for Adam Baldwin. Her books include Non-Compliance: The Sector, Non-Compliance: The Transition, and Non-Compliance: Equilibrium.

Mary Fan is a hopeless dreamer, whose mind insists on spinning tales of “what if.” As a music major in college, she told those stories through compositions. Now, she tells them through books—a habit she began as soon as she could pick up a pencil. And what stories she has! Currently, she has three series in progress and likes to think that she has even more in her bag. Her books include Starswept, the Jane Colt trilogy, the Firedragon novellas, and the Fated Stars novellas.

COVER REVEAL: Magic at Midnight: A YA Fairy Tale Anthology

Hey everyone! I'm thrilled to reveal the cover for Snowy Wings Publishing's first collective anthology, Magic at Midnight! It's a collection of YA fairy tale retellings featuring 14 Snowy Wings authors, including myself, plus a guest author, and edited by members Lyssa Chiavari and Amy McNulty. We'll all be reinterpreting different fairy tales, including Rapunzel, The Little Mermaid, Tam-Lin, Sleeping Beauty...

As for me, I claimed The Nightingale. It's been one of my favorites since I was a kid, though it's lesser known (and lesser done) than some. The story is about a plain brown nightingale whose songs enchant a Chinese emperor (the story was written by Hans Christian Andersen). One day, the emperor is gifted a beautiful, jeweled mechanical nightingale and forgets about the plain bird. But when the emperor falls ill and seeks the comfort of the mechanical nightingale's music, the machine breaks. The live nightingale returns to comfort him.

This story has so many elements I love... the tension between the "real" and the mechanical, and, of course, music. For my retelling, I automatically thought, "well, what if the nightingale were an opera singer instead of a bird?" And then I did a little background research and found out that Andersen wrote the story as an ode to opera singer Jenny Lind (yes, that Jenny Lind who was so poorly portrayed in The Greatest Showman), who was known as the Swedish Nightingale. Which made things extra cool.

My version will take place on an alien planet... with a teen empress as the main character, a charming young tenor as the nightingale, and an AI singer as the mechanical bird. Except this isn't going to go the way you think... One of the most fun parts about retellings is getting to flip the established story on its head (like how Once Upon A Time made Peter Pan into a villain and had Red Riding Hood as a shapeshifter who transforms into the Wolf). I've been wanting to write this story for ages, so when Lyssa proposed the Snowy Wings anthology, I was like, "I have just the thing!"

Anyway, this was supposed to be a cover reveal post! Thanks for bearing with me... and now, here's the cover, which was designed by KimG Design (www.kimg-design.com, @kimgdesign on Instagram, @who_is_kimy on Twitter). Isn't it gorgeous???

TRIPLE COVER REVEAL (!): Stay In Touch Books 2-4 / Joy Penny

Today, I'm revealing the covers for Joy Penny's Stay in Touch Books 2-4 (Covers by Berto Designs)! Aren't they swoon-y?

Title: Touch of Heartache
Series: Stay in Touch (Book 2)
Author: Joy Penny
Publisher: Snowy Wings Publishing

Publication Date: 12/5/2017

Four friends. Four college grads. Four people figuring out that life doesn’t always turn out the way you expected.

Just weeks before graduating, Lilac Townsend throws away her elementary school teacher job offer in Minnesota to work in Florida at the official resort of her favorite vacation spot, Tildy World. Pushing down all second thoughts, she fills her mind with visions of sunny beaches and Tildy Tapir, the cartoon character who always promised to make her childhood dreams come true. Unfortunately, between a sleazy boss and a community college student in a character suit who manages to fray her last nerve, Lilac soon learns that working behind the scenes at the park is hardly “happily ever after.”

Nolan Gregosky had plans after graduating high school a few years back: go to college, join a fraternity, and make some memories before earning a degree. Instead, tragedy sidelined those dreams, but his job posing for pictures with drooling, snot-nosed kids as Silly Sandgrouse gives him a chance to unload some pent-up energy. When the stunning but uptight new assistant manager at the resort proves a distraction in more ways than one, Nolan realizes it’s up to him to show her what it means to eat, live, and breathe life at the park.

A relationship at this unsteady stage of their lives might not be the brightest idea for either of them, but it’s hard to ignore that tingling sensation whenever the paths of this plush-suit beast and naïve beauty collide.

Trigger warning: Sexual harassment at work.

Announcing FLYNN NIGHTSIDER AND THE EDGE OF EVIL!

Hey everyone! Exciting news! For those of you who've been following me for the past few years, you've probably seen me promoting two YA dark fantasy novellas, THE FIREDRAGON and FIREDRAGON RISING. These stories were written as prequels to a full-length novel, FLYNN NIGHTSIDER AND THE EDGE OF EVIL, and I'm thrilled to announce that I (finally!) have a release date for it! While I enjoyed working with the folks at Glass House Press (who originally contracted the series and published the two novellas), I've reached a point in my publishing life where going indie with it simply made more sense.

So FLYNN NIGHTSIDER AND THE EDGE OF EVIL will now be releasing on May 15, 2018 with Crazy 8 Press, an indie publishing collective. And I'm revealing the cover on Halloween! Thought the spooky aesthetic matched the holiday :-) Sign up below to join me!

BNG FRIDAY: How Do You Organize an Anthology?

Every Friday until its publication, I'm going to blog something about Brave New Girls: Stories of Girls Who Science and Scheme, a YA sci-fi anthology featuring tech-savvy heroines. The goal is to encourage more girls to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers. Revenues from sales of the anthology will be donated to a scholarship fund through the Society of Women Engineers.

How do you pick the order of stories in an anthology? It's not something I thought about before embarking on the BRAVE NEW GIRLS journey a few years back, with our first tome: Brave New Girls: Tales of Girls and Gadgets. I always took it for granted that the stories were just... in order.

I suppose it doesn't matter that much, since most people don't read anthologies cover-to-cover in order anyway. They skip around to stories of particular interest to them. Still, for that odd person who does read an anthology the same way they would any other book, we wanted the order to make sense.

For the first anthology, Girls and Gadgets, Paige Daniels and I decided to go for "organized randomness." As in, we wanted the stories to feel like they were in a random order. For example, we wouldn't want our two Mars stories to be next to each other, or for a cluster of virtual reality tales to show up.

For our second, Science and Scheme, we decided to go in the exact opposite direction and organize our stories in sections by subgenre. Just to mix things up.

Looking at the 22 stories we had and knowing we wanted our stories to bookend the collection (last time, Paige's story was first and mine was last; this time, mine opens and hers closes), we settled on four categories: space, earth-based, steampunk, and cyberpunk/robots. Within each section, I found similarities between certain stories and tried to alternate so that, say, our two stories featuring steampunk dragons wouldn't be back-to-back. Below are the results:

SECTION 1: Scintillating Space

SECTION 2: Earthly Engineers

SECTION 3: Steampunk STEM

SECTION 4: Cyborgs and Cyberworlds

BNG FRIDAY: The Last Android

Every Friday until its publication, I'm going to blog something about Brave New Girls: Stories of Girls Who Science and Scheme, a YA sci-fi anthology featuring tech-savvy heroines. The goal is to encourage more girls to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math careers. Revenues from sales of the anthology will be donated to a scholarship fund through the Society of Women Engineers.

Last but certainly not least, I'm spotlighting "The Last Android" by my co-editor, Paige Daniels! Set in a post-apocalyptic future where technology has virtually faded to myth, it's got that gritty, down-to-earth style that distinguishes Paige's work. Teen scavenger Imogen spends her days collecting scrap for the abusive old woman she lives with, but when she discovers a sentient android -- possibly the last working android in the world -- she fears what will happen to her new mechanical friend... she knows people will just want to take the android apart for parts. So she runs away and sets off in search of a rumored high-tech settlement, where she hopes she and the android will find a new home. Inspired by The Last Unicorn with a heroine that gives me Rey vibes (for those of you who are Star Wars fans, Imogen is kind of like a scrappier, more cynical version of Rey on Jakku), "The Last Android" somehow manages to be an epic journey within the bounds of a short story. It's a fantastic read, y'all, and I'm not just saying that because Paige is my co-editor ;-)

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Clara Kensie, author of dark fiction for young adults
…don’t forget to breathe…

Clara Kensie grew up near Chicago, reading every book she could find and using her diary to write stories about a girl with psychic powers who solved mysteries. She purposely did not hide her diary, hoping someone would read it and assume she was writing about herself. Since then, she’s swapped her diary for a computer and admits her characters are fictional, but otherwise she hasn’t changed one bit.

Today Clara is a RITA© Award-winning author of dark fiction for young adults. Her debut, the super-romantic psychic thriller Deception So series, was named an RT Book Review Editors Pick for Best Books of 2014, and Deception So Book One: Deception So Deadly, is the winner of the prestigious 2015 RITA© Award for Best First Book. The first two books in the series, originally released as the six-part Run to You digital serial in 2014, are being released in print with new Deception So titles and gorgeous new covers, starting with Deception So Deadly in August 2017 and Deception So Dark in February 2018. The series continues with Deception So Dangerous in August 2018.

Clara’s critically-acclaimed novel Aftermath (Simon and Schuster/Simon Pulse), a dark, ripped-from-the-headlines drama about hope, healing, and triumph over tragedy in the tradition of Room and The Lovely Bones, is on Goodreads’ list of Most Popular Books Published in November 2016, and Young Adult Books Central declared it a Top Ten Book of 2016.

Clara’s favorite foods are guacamole and cookie dough. But not together. That would be gross.
