REVIEW
In an alternate world, people live in the high-tech underground city of Atlantis after a global conflict left the earth uninhabitable. For eight hundred years, no one has gone outside, and security captain Allysndra is charged with keeping the city safe from external dangers. But her new second-in-command, Max, wants nothing more than to explore the world above, even though tragedy struck the last attempted mission. Ally knows that Max is bad news -- not just professionally, but personally as well, since the have a romantic history. Meanwhile, something sinister is afoot in Atlantis... There are those who would stop at nothing to keep people from going to the surface.

The Love Beneath is a sci-fi romance novel with lots of feels and steam set against a futuristic thriller-type background. Sometimes, all you want is to read about two people who are meant to be together... The push and pull, the tension, the turmoil, the drama. The Love Beneath delivers on all these fronts while also presenting some amazing world-building. Though it's a romance novel first, it doesn't neglect the sci-fi elements, and there's plenty of mystery and intrigue as well.

I don't want to say too much about the plot because that would be spoiling the twists, but suffice it to say that the story takes some interesting turns. Ally and Max are great characters to follow, with their wit and charm and palpable chemistry, and we're also introduced to a number of interesting supporting cast members, who we'll be seeing more of in the sequels (which will each feature a different romantic pair set in this universe).

This is a fast-paced and easy read -- great for those days when you just want to be entertained and enjoy a comfort book. The writing just pulls you in, and the next thing you know, you look up and find that you've read 25% of the novel (I have the Kindle version).

So if you like romance novels with lots of chemistry that's set in a brave new world, grab this book, sit back, relax, and enjoy (ideally with a glass of wine).

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Annika Brynley currently lives in New Jersey and she is as passionate about reading as she is about writing. She developed her love for stories and storytelling at a very early age, when she would listen to her grandmother tell stories of epic proportions. She has been spinning stories in her head ever since. She has a facility for languages—she speaks four currently—and earned her BA in Spanish from Rutgers University.

Since then, she has worked in the financial services industry, joined the Army, visited the Grand Canyon and New Orleans and been deployed to Iraq in 2008. She had a personal epiphany not too long after her return home and she began to seriously pursue her love of writing.

She is still holding out for Mr. Right, but in the meantime, when she is not working or studying, she can be found curled up with a good romance or writing one. The Love Beneath is her first completed story, but by no means her last!
