A lot of this has to do with culture, society, etc. Brainy girls are rarely depicted as the heroes of their tales - they're either shunted aside as quirky sidekicks or dolled up into sexy love interests. So sci-fi author Paige Daniels and I decided to do something about that: We put together a whole book full of stories starring girl hackers, scientists, etc. as the heroines. After crowd-funding the venture, selecting stories from 18 talented authors (plus illustrations and a foreword), and putting the whole thing together (professional editing, proofreading, and formatting), we're finally sending this book into the world today!
The e-book is on sale for only $1.99 until June 22 (regular price will be $4.99). Here's where you can find it:
All revenues from sales of this anthology will be donated a scholarship fund through the Society of Women Engineers. Let’s show the world that girls, too, can be tomorrow’s inventors, programmers, scientists, and more.

So far, release day has been a blast, and we're doing pretty well! As of right now, we've made it into the top 10 on Amazon in Children's Short Stories. Oh, and then there's this...
Such a pretty orange banner with that little "#1 New Release"... |
I'm hoping we can keep the momentum going and raise a nice wad of cash for the scholarship to support STEM education for young ladies. I still can't believe that after over a year of working on this project, it's finally out into the world! I'm so grateful for all the support we've received - through donated money, time, and talents, and through help spreading the word. I've been blowing up my Twitter today in my attempts to get the word out, and I'm truly thankful for the support received.
Here's to making a difference in our own little way!
